e-NABLE

Mission and Vision: e-NABLE's mission is to provide access to free, open-source, 3D-printable assistive technology and prosthetic devices to individuals in need. Our community envisions a world where functional independence is available to all, regardless of age, economic status, or physical limitations.

Core Activities:

  1. Open-Source Access: e-NABLE offers a range of community-designed devices that are 100% open source. These are not medical devices. We design and distribute functional tools that help the user to overcome physical limitations and/or replicate the actions of lost or absent limbs.

  2. Global Outreach: We are a global community. With over 10,000 members in North America, Europe, and worldwide, e-NABLE’s makers assist members in their own communities and identify recipients in the developing world.

  3. STEAM Education: A large percentage of our members are students and educators across the US and Europe. Students learn from (and frequently teach) veteran makers to better understand empathetic design, socially responsible engineering. We are exceedingly proud of the innovative solutions developed by our youngest members.

How it works

Devices and Technology:

e-NABLE's devices are designed by community members and include a variety of upper extremity prostheses and functional tools. These devices blend traditional fabrication methods with 3D-printed components, maximizing user comfort and function while minimizing cost.

e-NABLE Partners and Chapters:

e-NABLE operates on a decentralized, chapter-based network structure, allowing for flexibility and local relevance. Each chapter, while adhering to the overarching mission and values of e-NABLE, functions semi-autonomously, ensuring that solutions are locally relevant, culturally sensitive, and tailored to the unique challenges of each region. Chapters serve as hubs of innovation and community engagement, driving the grassroots movement that is at the heart of e-NABLE's success
